What will be different this year? I will be documenting my training on my YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.com/c/RobertComstock I hope to be an inspiration to runners and non runners to get out and run.
April-May 2020 time frame the Leadville race series announced that all Leadville running and mountain bike events were canceled. All other races started following suit. Canceled!!!
All that training from 2019 until then was out the door. I had to find something to keep me motivated. I found the Javelina Jundred. I started training in the middle of the day here in Colorado Springs, CO to try to get use to the heat. Then I watch a race briefing on the Javelina Jundred and the spirit of the race is lost. Wave starts, no washtub style for each lap, no Jackass junction. I pulled my registration.
So what am I doing today? Training for the 2021 Leadville 100. Well I hope I am. The Leadville race series gave several options on what I wanted to do and I chose the option to defer to the 2021 race. They actually gave you a 2021, 2022 or 2023 option. I really do not want to push it out that far.
I wish that I had just completed the race, but that did not happen. This past weekend gave me a chance to reset and restart my training for the 2021 race. Last night I put my long term training plan on the calendar. Interval, recover, tempo, recover, endurance, recover, Interval… You get the picture. I am focusing on each discipline for four weeks. This works out perfectly as I am starting an endurance cycle in June 2021. The same month of the Leadville Marathon. I will continue the endurance cycle into July and run the Silver Rush 50. After the 50 I will continue endurance training up to the Leadville 100.
